Peaceful and relaxing.
A perfect place for rest and relaxation. We are here at the moment. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The hotel is clean and made up of a number of two storey buildings in the gardens. The gardens are beautiful but I bet even better in spring or early summer. We are B&B and the breakfast is fantastic plenty to choose from. We opted to eat in the restaurant on Madeira night and it cost £37.50 per person including wine. It was good food. The rooms are a little dated I prefer the term quaint. Some of the doors on furniture may not hang straight, the bath has seen better days (chipped enamel) but everything is clean and there are loads of draws and wardrobe space. Ours is an apartment with a kitchenette which has all you need. Nearby is a supermarket and a handful of bars but not many places to eat out if like us B&B. I would name staff who we have been good but the list would be too long. All staff seem to speak very good English and German some French too. The reception staff are incredibly informative and helpful.

RoomsWe are in a small (50m2)apartment the room is spacious and clean. We have a kitchenette and living room (possibility to be 3 or 4). Sleeping in the living room. As we are near the pool we have our terrace (surrounded by cactus flowers and banana trees)
Activities nearbyWe got off at Funchal by bus (2.6o€ per ticket ) it is well connected. But the driver drives quite fast despite the turns and the road downhill.
SecurityThere is a security guard and valet in the hotel.

If you do not want to go to one of Funchal's factories, this hotel is for you! The setting is splendid, the staff considerate and there are good restaurants in the immediate vicinity. Buses make it easy to get to and from the centre of Funchal.

Annoying power struggle when checking into hotel splendida by aggressive receptionist.

The apartment was as desired and had a lovely terrace. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food and service ditto. Breakfast and dinner true delights, tasty, fresh and affordable.
However, there was one minus when checking in at this hotel. We always bring copies of our passports on which sensitive information is covered according to the rules and advice of the State Department. This is to prevent identity fraud with social security numbers.
The receptionist present, a young girl, requested our passports, which we presented to her at her request. She then wanted to scan and copy them. We asked her to use our covered copies for this. However, she did not want to hear about it, even after explanation. She didn't want to get the manager either, got furious and started a power struggle. She started threatening! We would not be able to check into our prepaid apartment on this Sunday night, where it would be difficult to find anything else, if we did not agree to her terms!!!Take it or leave it! We reluctantly decided for Take it, and to never pay in advance at this hotel again. We had a great stay in the apartment. We avoided contact with this aggressive heat petition of a receptionist. At that moment there was no longer a feeling of welcome.

Mostly positive stay
Absolutely great gardens, in which the buildings are super integrated. Food great, breakfast buffet absolutely rich. Public transport very close, also supermarket and post office. If you are looking for rich entertainment, however, the small town east of Funchal is wrong. Travel by bus about 20 min, terminus at the promenade of Funchal, right next to the cable car to Monte and very central to the old town.
The ladies and the gentleman at the reception were extremely friendly and helpful.
What was bad is that the water is very heavily chlorinated and cannot be drunk - no hint about this in the hotel and only for the first day a bottle of water (3/4 liters) is provided free of charge. The following days you can either pay 4,50 € per bottle in the hotel or haul bottles and produce garbage from the nearby supermarket.
Quinta Splendida values ecology. At each meal, the cutlery and napkin are placed on the table in paper bags, which in my opinion produces too much garbage. The tables are nicely decorated. The paper bags disturb the image and also do not meet the standard of the hotel.

Dreamlike hotel complex with small corners and edges. Recommended!
.Beautiful grounds in a well-kept botanical garden. Imaginative design with many places to stay Cosy spa area.

The German TV reception is unfortunately poor . There is clearly room for improvement
Positive to note: There is a great bakery and a well stocked supermarket very close by. In addition, within walking distance 2 or 3 good and inexpensive restaurants A rental car is recommended, as everything is very steep here A trip by Bolttaxi to Funchal costs about 10 euros per car
