The Good Host
Absolutely lives up to their name...
From the stunning fireplace to the gorgeous interior, we most definitely felt at home & I would recommend it to anyone looking for a cosy B&B on a lovely winters evening.
I was super impressed & happy that we discovered this hidden gem.
Thank you for accommodating us on such short notice and at the same time exceeding all our expectations.
Definitely gets 5 stars & 2 thumbs up from me.

nobody cares
There was no one there at the advertised time and the phone number provided was incorrect.
Almost nothing was explained. The alarm went off at 4am after a power outage and I didn't have a code to turn it off. There wasn't even a glass in the room, and there wasn't even a chair. The photos do not match the room. I was supposed to leave the door unlocked when I was away as there was no second key. (In South Africa with valuables in the room :))))
Directly in front of the window (at the house) a lamp burned all night, which one could not put out, so that it was bright in the room.

THE WORST accommodation/booking experience we have had. The Good Host, a complete failed booking experience!
Still completely shocked at the terrible experience and treatment we had with The Good Host, and Booking.com.
Via Booking.com we booked the entire house (all three bedrooms) for one night for our family and nanny as we had a special event to attend. We booked it because it looked safe, comfortable and was just 5 minutes drive from our venue of the event, making it the best option to leave our children safely with the nanny and for us to be able to come back and fourth.
We booked it 3 days before, received confirmation email and so was under the impression all was in order. I emailed two days before to arrange an early check in, which I also received email confirmation that this was possible and that all was in order.
On the morning of arrival I then tried to contact the property owner to ensure all was good and ready for our arrival, via the cellphone number available on my booking confirmation, but the number ‘did not exist’. I persisted but was unsuccessful. I also tried to email the same email address again, to see if that worked, but no reply. We arrived at The Good Host in Houtbay at the time confirmed via email, only to find everything locked up, no one around, the door bell not functioning and no way to contact anyone. We waited for an hour, on the road, with a toddler and newborn baby, in hope that perhaps someone would arrive. During this time I desperately tried to get hold of someone at The Good Host, but unfortunately Booking.com has no way of you being able to contact anyone directly… everything is automated and therefore this was unsuccessful. I eventually got hold of Lyn, from The Good Host via Air Bnb chat.
She said someone was on their way and would be there in 15 minutes. When she arrived, we were relieved as our event was starting in 2 hours, only to be told that someone had already checked into one of the rooms of which we had already booked and paid for!!! This meaning we had been double booked…!
Absolutely shocking service, from the very beginning. It should have been a red flag to us, the lack correspondence but unfortunately we followed through with this booking.
Needless to say Booking.com never responded to our terrible experience on their booking sight, and neither has The Good Host. I would be very wary of booking at this property due to such inexcusable service, and as the ‘booking assistant’ who arrived to let us in, was also unprofessional and clueless as to what to do or how to help. The experience on a whole was one we have never had before. Completely shocking!
