Sad decline of a once decent hotel
Unfortunately this hotel has a 2 tiered all inclusive system, Unique or standard. The problem here is that they have segregated areas within the same main bar. This is socially and politically unacceptable in the 21st century to adopt this policy and makes you feel like a second class citizen. Many people stated how ridiculous this policy is. It’s unheard of anywhere else these days and needs to be stopped. Also, during our stay, they made the Unique zone larger until 18:00hrs by taking away the only smoke free, outside area from the standard all inclusive zone. We told them that we would not be accepting this and used the Unique zone anyway which they eventually accepted but only after a lot of stress and aggravation. Additionally, they have a system where if you agree to not having your room cleaned, they would give you a premium drinks voucher which clearly states that you can use it up to 23:00 hours. However when I presented the voucher this year I was told no, the rules have changed and you can no longer use it in the only bar open in the evening! A ridiculous rule change that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and is only designed to annoy the guests unnecessarily. Obviously, I didn’t accept this and after a lot more hassle and aggravation I was able to use my vouchers as stated on the website and token. You are constantly being told ‘no it’s not on all inclusive, you have to pay’. What they fail to understand is that we have paid in advance and it’s not cheap. The all inclusive options are EXTREMELY limited in ALL areas now and the food is three star standard at best and NOTHING like it was. It even deteriorated during our stay. Salads are so basic with bland, tasteless cheeses now. The Roquefort for example has been replaced with a disgusting fake blue cheese and the melon is now off the menu altogether. No more Worcestershire sauce during the end of our stay and so many other things being replaced with poor quality alternatives. There is NO fresh orange juice, just concentrate. No prawns except in the Paella once a week, no smoked salmon, no avocado, little variety of cold meats. All the things you get as standard in other 4 star hotels are non existent here. We have been coming to this island for forty years and usually stay in Dunas Don Gregory or the Bull hotels (3 star) and HL Hotels all of which are like being in a different world. You pretty much have anything you want for example, Don Gregory you are given full bottles of wine/cava whenever you want and they have a huge selection of quality food and drinks plus an extensive a la carte menu. The Bull hotels are similar with so much more to offer than the Dunamar. To add insult to injury, I got food poisoning one night as did others on a different night who overheard our conversation! My sister stayed here the previous month and got it TWICE!! I reported it and they were apologetic. I don’t know how the standards have fallen so drastically in such a short space of time while the prices have rocketed? The management of this hotel needs replacing urgently as they are making unacceptable decisions and are ruining the reputation of what was a decent hotel. The staff are evidently unhappy with the constant changes and kept apologising for the management’s decisions. I really feel sorry for them as it’s not their fault. Needless to say, we won’t be back unless the management are changed and standards match those of other hotels in the resort who actually charge less.

Windy city!
Staff are brilliant and food plentiful!
If you stay book half board but with Unique package. Activities throughout the day and excellent entertainment in the evening!
