A relaxing stay in the beautiful English countryside
A lovely relaxing place to stay!
The room we stayed in had two floors which was a treat, it was really comfy and cosy and tastefully decorated. The shower was very powerful and the underfloor heating was lovely! The bed was huge and incredibly comfy!
Breakfast was delicious, good selection of continental buffet and a tasty full English cooked fresh to order.
We ate on site in the Sawmill restaurant on one of the evenings and thoroughly enjoyed the food. The presentation was fab, the food itself was all cooked to perfection and although it was what I would consider to be ‘posh’ / ‘chef-y’ food the portion sizes were great.
The staff were all really friendly and professional. One of the waitresses on our evening food service went the extra mile (on a ‘side quest’) to make sure I had some cream for my coffee, much appreciated.
This hotel is set amongst the most stunning English countryside. The views are incredible.
Whilst we were staying here we visited - Corfe Castle, RSPB Arne, Dancing End and Kilwood Nature Reserve. We ate at The Greyhound Inn in Corde castle and thoroughly enjoyed the steak and chips there!
We will, without doubt be returning!

Trying to be fine dining.
Lovely welcome, we were early so room wasn’t ready so caught the bus into Swanage,on return room was ready, spotless and very nice , lovely view overlooking the lake (room3)it would be lovely to have a bird feeder on one of the trees as I am sure you would get a lot more birds visiting.Now on to the disappointing part of our visit, Sawmill restaurant is very rustic as is the whole concept of the hotel ,so why try to be a fine dining restaurant which it isn’t, chairs are so uncomfortable,very hard,nice wine list but cheap chunky glasses ,my partners pigeon breast was minuscule and was £11.50 !!My duck egg was nice but small .By contrast the mains were huge but mostly salad that is not fine dining.Breakfast was very nice the next morning,so we come to the next evening meal ,my sardines were nice ,but my partner ordered the smoked trout starter,when it came it was fish mousse again minuscule and not what is on the menu no sign of any foraged herbs just small cornichons,and again £11.50,then we had the special it was a huge burger with what the waitress said was some sort of meat but she didn’t know what it was ,turns out it was pastrami, it was huge, again definitely not fine dining,my opinion for what it’s worth is go with the rustic style of food .Because of the food issues we will not be returning

Great stay but...
We spent 2 nights staying here for 24th & 25th March 2025, half board and we were generously upgraded to a Forest View room FOC which we found out when we checked out (we had booked a deluxe double and assumed we had that). Ours was called Carpenter 2.
The greeting upon arrival was efficient and friendly, everything was explained to us and we were asked to book our dinner time for that evening and breakfast time for the Tuesday morning. We had no issue doing this but we were presented with a very limited number of time slots as others had already booked theirs and we assume they do this so the chef / dining room can cope with covers. I am only saying this as it was not an issue for us but it might be if you wanted a specific eating time.
The evening menu is not vast but there is something for every taste. There were 3 main specials on the Monday plus a desert. Any supplementary charges were explained and easily understood. We had great service, efficient, friendly and very professional. The food was lovely. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the full dining experience. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said at all for Tuesday 25th March’s evening meal.
We dined at 7.15 and noted we were one of the last to arrive to eat.
Firstly it took an age for us to be offered drinks and we think that only happened when a manager / owner at the bar, told the young female waitress to do so. Throughout the entire meal, we were never offered drinks again but I guess we could have asked.
Our mains were delicious and were served in good time. We were not rushed at all which was nice but we suspect that was because the two young members of staff on duty just kept messing about with each other rather than serve us, as the manager / owner had left for the night. We do not recall their names but the young lady was blond, she told us she had worked there for about 4 years and we did notice her very long nails, a few of which were missing.
She bought us the desert menu when we asked for it and we asked her if she had any recommendations. She pointed to the first desert on the list, told us that was the only one she had tried and she said she didn’t like it. Hardly a glowing recommendation.
As we deliberated over our choice, we noticed that the chef had put her coat on to leave and we realised we were the only customers left. It was only around 8.30 though but in hindsight, we should have started to worry.
We both chose the homemade crumble. Well that arrived in double quick time and we observed the chef fill each bowl with precooked fruit, then sprinkle on top what appeared to be bought in crumble topping. It had not been put in an oven to bake at all so we suspect the topping was uncooked. It was finished off with a scoop of ice cream. The topping was so cold, the ice cream didn’t melt! There would have been no point in complaining at the time, as we saw the chef was already out of the door. All in all, a very disappointing dining experiencing with the two younger members of staff not being very professional l. Indeed it was obvious from the young lady’s demeanour and behaviour, that she didn’t want to be there at all. Not a great advert for the hotel and it would make us reconsider having half board again.
Our room and bathroom were very clean, with a lovely selection of soaps etc and the shower was excellent. Great pressure and temperature. Our super king size bed was a delight, so comfortable – I would love that mattress at home.
In line with other reviews, we did find the room tired in some places. For example, the sofa had certainly seen better days and the single arm chair was fully covered with a throw which made us wonder what was beneath it. One of the main windows had a blown double glazed unit so was full of condensation and 2 out of the 3 venetian blinds had missing ropes / cords so they didn’t work correctly. None of this spoilt our enjoyment at all but is not in keeping with the advertised luxury vibe and the prices being charged.
So in summary, we had a lovely stay and would defiantly consider staying again; the food was very tasty and the vast majority of staff were professional, hardworking and very friendly. The place could do with some updating if it’s going to continue to command its high prices and some retraining for specific staff might help too.

You are correct in regards to our table booking process for our restaurant, we certainly avoid overbooking on certain times to ensure our guests receive the quality of food they are expecting, therefore we would always recommend booking in advance and reserving a table.
I would like to sincerely apologise for the disappointing level of service you received during the second evening, this is certainly not to our normal standards which you experienced during your first evening and you can be assured we have addressed this internally with the team member on the evening. Your interactions with my team have fallen short of our normal standards that we train and encourage everyday, your comments have certainly allowed myself to review our processes in detail with this team member.
To reassure you that our Restaurant for food is open until 9pm, our Chefs do change for any rest breaks which I believe this is what you witnessed in the evening. Thank you for your feedback in regards to your dessert, as per your prior experience I can assure you that all of our produce in prepared in house, we use local suppliers and what we have on our grounds, I apologise that the dessert has not met the same standards as the rest of your meals.

Lovely event venue in a beautiful setting with brilliant staff and delicious food!
Had the most fabulous 30th birthday party at Kingston Country Courtyard. Tony and the team were amazing and made my family and friends feel really welcome. The barn venue is a lovely space and looked magical. All of the food was delicious - from the evening meal to the cooked breakfast and the Sunday roast too. Portion sizes were generous and nothing was too much trouble. The accommodation on site is comfortable and very convenient. Tony was brilliant with the event planning and the whole team helped run a really wonderful party. Thank you all so much! We will definitely be back!
